Hello! And welcome to this somewhat unorganized trade offer. Please forgive my many mistakes and no doubt I'll leave something important out.
That's me there, Alyssa Thornton. I'd rather not disclose my age but I'm under 25. And this lovely horse next to me is Evensong. Sadly, this Dutch Warmblood mare is the item I am looking to trade. Some months ago I took a trip to a horse dealer's yard down south, wanting to purchase a sound jumping horse for me to start my career with. This mare was everything I wanted; scopey, easy on the eyes and within my price range. I was told she was now 9 years old and had jumped 1.40 courses with her previous owner and had much success, but it was never clear to me how she had ended up with the dealer.
Anyway, let me fast forward to now - unfortunately, "Lisse" as she is called, wasn't quite the laidback schoolmaster type of horse I had pictured. Within the first week she had jumped out of the field twice, and thrown me off.
She's very headstrong and energetic, it takes a loooot of exercise before she starts to tire. She was certainly bred and trained for jumping, it's in her blood. She comes alive when she sees fences in the arena, and can become hard to keep under control. Sadly, I'm not a very confident rider and was anticipating Lisse to build my confidence.
I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea about Lisse; she isn't a bad horse by any means. She's very sweet and loves attention. She is easy to groom, muck out, clip, load etc. She doesn't put up any trouble for the vet or farrier either. But under saddle, she does need a rider full of confidence and experience dealing with strong horses.
As you can see here, with the right rider this mare can simply fly. She deserves to find a new owner / rider who can deal with her, and let her flourish. That rider just isn't me.
Since I used all my savings to buy Lisse, I am unable to simply buy a new horse, and since I have no idea how long it would take to find a buyer for her, I'm hoping the idea of a trade would appeal to others. Here are a few things I am looking for;
* My new horse must be a mare or a gelding. I really don't want a stallion, unless he can be gelded upon arriving at our stable
* I love Warmbloods; Irish Sport Horses are my favourite breed, but the yard I work for also owns several Oldenburgs and Trakehners too.
* My favourite colour is grey (especially flea bitten greys, or fading greys) but I do also like dark bays too. But I'm open to any colour.
I work as a groom at Honeybrook but I do also get the chance to compete at local shows, so my new horse will be shown. I just can't promise I can take him or her to every show possible. I know the yard has a tumblr and a scrapbook on this forum too that can be used for updates as well.
I'm not expecting to find a suitable new horse immediately, but I hope someone out there has a much calmer, steadier horse who will help me in my training lessons to build up confidence and tackle some local shows with too. Feel free to write a reply here or by PM, and also on Slack too if you would like to discuss anything.
OOC Just in case it isn't overly obvious, Alyssa is looking to trade a fiery buckskin KWPN mare named Evensong who is completely unregistered. She is looking for a much safer horse in return, something to potter around the yard with and take to local shows and maybe take on the odd hunt or two. My inbox is always open for questions, and you can reach me on slack too.
