Jonathan loved taking Zarengold to shows. As uncontrollable and stubborn the black stallion was at home, as soon as he stepped into the arena he seemed to be a different horse. He was willing and obedient, approached every jump concentrated. He was eager. Eager to please his rider and eager to win. Something he is never when ridden at home. At home he is a beast of a horse, he stops in front of obstacles, he rears and bucks when he thinks he had enough training. Jonathan had a hard time to even bring him up to this height. However he is working far better with bigger jumps - maybe he just needs to have a bit of a challenge.
Whatever it is - in the show ring this stallion is a dream of a horse.

Where in tarnation is he!? I thought silently in my head.

There was the sound of laughter and horses snickering everywhere. Through the walls of the riding hall it could be heard the course was being build in this very moment. Poles thumping, chatter, someone shouting directions, more laughter.

The yard was filled with people, both audience and entrants - breeders, riders, managers. There was a constant flow of horses and people arriving at the yard, entering the tent barn, leaving it for schooling and vet inspections.

Melrose was slowly growing nervous which was no surprise to anyone since this was to be her first official show. So far the mare had taken everything so calmly and nicely, but everyone had limits.

I had promised to walk Melrose in the schooling ring while Andreas went to sign himself up. He was supposed to start in the second class of Saturday and they were already transforming the crossrail course into a beginner one. If he didn’t appear soon, he would barely have time for getting rid of his coat and pulling on his show gloves before entering the show ring.

But it seemed like Andreas had disappeared in to the cold air. He was possibly lost or had rushed into a friend or something. I felt my toes starting to freeze up. When Andreas would finally mind showing up, I was certainly going to leave him with Melrose and go enjoy some of my manager privileges in the cafeteria.

Denn leaned against the fence, craning her neck to watch as Alec trotted around the arena atop the chestnut mare. He had a coolness about him that she had always admired, the way he handled horses. Always easy. She raised her camera to her eye and watched the two move together through the lens.

The image was a familiar one that put a smile on her face. She remembered that fateful show 7 years ago, the ever imprinted scene of that showboat of a show jumper, wrestling with an irritable little bay mare during the warm up, the buck, the rear, and the face plant in all its glory.

"HEY. You better not be thinking about that time I ate shit again." Alec's voice rang across the arena.

With a chuckle Denn called back, "What that time last week? Or do you mean 7 years ago? Oh right you mean every time in between. Now bring her over here, I want a picture of you two."

Alec circled the mare back over to the fence where Denn stood. "Alright alright hurry up and take it."

"OH SWEET JESUS."

And those-were the last words of Denn Hanes before Aggie let out the sneeze to end all sneezes.

Flammenfest already was a routined competitor by now, although it was his first show with me on his back and the rest of the team by his side. But for him it cleary haven't made any difference. Whereas I myself was a nerve rack. I so wanted to do a perfect round with him, wanted to impress my father and everyone else. I had luck that Flamme didn't bother with me and more or less did his thing, he corrected strides when he thought I was wrong (and I certainly was a few times) and managed to get us a clear round. Obviously it wasn't the most harmonious round but we could built up on that, and I was very happy with Flamme. I just wish I wouldn't have been that anxious about failing, 'cause If I weren't we really could have done better.

Finally we were able to bring our youngest horse to a show. Centurion CF was bought at the age of 4, with only minor training under his belt so Jonathan had the oppurtinity to train him by himself. Jon was very happy about that because he always loved to work with young horses. Now it was time to show his work. Centi was unsure about the whole show situation at first. But the schooling days really helped him to settle down and relax. Though he was tense over the first obstacles during their actual round, he quickly relaxed and listened to the aids of his rider. They ended up with one knocked down pole where Jon and Centi lost their communication for a short moment. But it was nothing too bad and we are very happy about their results. Centurion for sure has proven that he holds potential for a lot more.

Showing wasn't Taylor's true calling. After all his choice of...Horses?. Weren't exactly conventional. But he had read in the fine print that all species were welcome. or at least that's how it sounded in Taylor's head and so his choice to bring along Zack had been final. It was time they showed themselves to the world outside the Circus ring. A simple class was his choice after all this would not only be his first show in a long time but also Zack's very first show, well ever. Well it wasn't like Zebra's were often allowed in equestrian competition's after all.

This wasn't the first time that Zack had seen snow but the Zebra found himself huffing at the prospect of having to trudge though the deep snow. He didn't mind being ridden, in fact the young Zebra rather enjoyed it and had been a quick learner in fact, carrying his rider with great carriage and ability. However today he found himself distracted. By the snow, by the many people who had come to the event. Sure Zack performed often in the Circus but that was with noise, the sound of laughter and joy, this show was quiet, barley a sound by the audience and so the Zebra stopped often to tilt his head to one side, starring at the crowd his ears flickering back and two as if he couldn't understand why this crowd didn't clap or cheer. Taylor chuckled to himself. "It's alright boy" his voice soft. "Your just here to show people how beautiful you are".
