Character's Name: Ivy Grey
Horse's Name: Devon's Lady Of The Night
Jane was nervous as she got out of the car. "I don't know about this Cain. Are you sure she's ready?" Glancing nervously over at Cain, the head trainer of the Riddermark Equestrian Center. "Don't worry Jane. Ivy will do great.". Ivy herself was still sitting in the backseat of the car, nose in a book. Which one, Jane didn't know.
Both Cain and Rebecca had convinced Jane to purchase Ivy a horse. It would be her first. Ivy was more of a bookworm that an active child but Jane was okay with that, really. Jane herself was once a famed Dressage rider before an injury forced her to retire. She had always hoped that Ivy might show interest in the sport herself, but that just didn't seem to happen. Oh, Ivy could ride. She'd been riding since she was five years old. She just... Didn't seem to love the animals like Jane did. "Come on. I see Ms. Stokes over there".
Walking around to the drivers side, "Ivy, darling, get out of the car and come greet Ms. Stokes" Jane said firmly to her daughter. She knew that if she didn't at least push, Ivy would stay immersed in her book. "Why do I have to get out of the car? You know I don't really like horses". "Because dear, Rebecca and Mr. Delacroix set all this up for you. The least you could do is meet Ms. Stokes and show a little bit of interest in the horse".
Grumbling to herself, Ivy finally emerged from the vehicle, albeit reluctantly. "Okay, just this once". It was hot. Florida was very hot. Neither Jane or Ivy were used to this kind of weather. Cain however, seemed right at home. He was from the USA afterall so that was bound to happen.
As they neared Cain, whom was talking with Mrs. Stokes, Ivy looked at her surroundings. In the ring was a young girl, maybe a few years older than herself riding a big chestnut horse. Ivy had to admit to herself that it looked fun. The chocolate Labrador trotting along beside her seemed at ease amongst the horses. At least they seem to be enjoying themselves. I just wnat to finish my book, it was just getting to the good part. Jane, Cain, and Ms. Stokes were all conversing when Ivy noticed a large grey horse standing over by the stepping block. While nobody was looking she decided to head over there. It was love at first sight.
Jane couldn't believe her eyes. She zoned out on what Ms. Stokes (please call me Annie) was saying. Her daughter was willingly touching a horse. Grabbing onto Cain's arm, "Cain, look!". Cain glanced over and saw Ivy standing with a large grey mare. I knew we just had to find the right horse.
"She's a beauty isn't she?" Ivy looked up from the horse to see a browned haired lady standing near by. "She sure is. What's her name?" The woman smiled. "Well, her official name is Devon's Lady of the Night, but we like to call her Lady". Ivy was entranced. If ever she was to own and ride a horse, it would be this one. "Can I ride her?". Annie smiled again. "Of course you can, she's the one I picked out for you."
Annie called to the gentleman on the big bay horse as he and the young girl were walking out of the ring. With an ease that Ivy had only ever seen accomplished riders use, Annie mounted the huge horse. gulp With the help of the mounting block, Ivy was able to successfully mount Lady. After about 30 minutes of pole work Annie directed Ivy to go towards the jump.
Ivy was never so scared in her life, but this mare, she was something. Sure-footed and calm as a summer breeze. Ivy knew, this was the start of something. It might not be Dressage like her mother would want, but at least she was on a horse.
