Is a walked with my son to the round pens we didn't say much, but how could we? Me and Jack barely knew each other.
He was very quite but as we entered the round pen for his first riding lesson he said, "Matilda...I am a little nervous..." I lightly patted his shoulder and smiled gently at him, "Don't worry your riding Elvis, the oldest and calmest pony in the world."
At first he still didn't trust me but when Elena walked out that short little Shetland pony his eyes light up.
"He is way smaller than I thought..." Jack said but he was thrilled with that.
"Yeah and once you get use to riding I bought you a nice little show pony." I decided to bring up Ellie to him because I wanted him to be excited, he just stayed quite but smiled.
We worked on basic horsemanship but he caught on fast, he was more scared than Elvis was.
But by the end of that long afternoon I managed to get him walking around by himself on the slow, stubborn pony.
Sure he was a little big for that pony but he was comfortable on the short guy, and the western saddle was easy to learn in.
After a good lesson we headed back to the barn and we were very quite but to my happiness Jack said something.
"Thanks a lot Matilda, I had fun." He smiled at me then went into the barn. Sure I hadn't earned the "Mom" title yet, but that would take a long time.
